 Devil's Debt - May 8, 2026

Dear Reader,

I want to take a moment to look at the beginnings of the Unlikely Kings Prophecy and inspect the dark chaos magic Lucifer set loose in the dream when he voided.

First, for those who are new here, welcome to the steamy, magical world of the Draoithe Saga, a realm of urban fantasy and paranormal romance crafted by yours truly. If you are looking to escape into a world where myths, legends, and fairytales walk among humans, Unlikely Kings: A Draoithe Saga Beginning is the perfect introduction. (Even if it isn't where I began telling the saga.)

Unlikely Kings is a tragic, fated romance at its core. This short prequel tells the tragic but fiercely passionate backstory of Lucifer Leiriu, the immortal King of the Devils. In the year 1016, Lucifer suffered a devastating loss when his human soulmate, Airlea, was brutally murdered because of the lies and betrayals of a supposed friend named Bushyasta. Grievously wronged and burning with agonizing grief, Lucifer refuses to accept an eternity without her.

His thousand-year sacrifice was driven by desperation to avoid an eternity alone. Lucifer agrees with Airlea’s twin sister, Hyppolyta, the Queen of the Amazons, and using his own black devil's blood and potent chaos magic, he pens a dark, world-altering spell. He then steps into a desolate, black void, giving up his crown and his connection to the dream for a thousand years. He exists in nothingness, waiting for the "Unlikely Kings" to rise and restore the magical balance so he can finally hold his love again. The alternative to this outcome is too dark for this essay.

What makes Unlikely Kings uniquely captivating is its format. The core of the story is written in a rare, first-person poetic verse—presented as the actual translation of Lucifer's ancient chaos magic spell from the Dorchan language. This dark prophecy outlines the future of the dream, detailing the fall of corrupt kingdoms and the rise of new immortal factions, including dragons, direwolves, angels, and demons.

The story comes full circle when the spell's magic finally returns Lucifer to the dream just before Thanksgiving in 2016. Disoriented and waking up in a wine cellar, he crosses paths with Aelria Sainte, a fruit nymph who holds the reincarnated soul of his lost Airlea. Aelria may not know him yet, but Lucifer is finally ready to claim the devil meant to be his and exact his long-awaited vengeance. But things didn't work quite as he expected, and the dream differs from when he voided.

Grab a good drink, curl up in a good seat... and escape into the dream with a great story.

Thread, the entry point into the world of the dream.

Unraveling chaos with each tattered thread

A thousand years ago, chaos escaped into the dream. By 2016, shadowy evil forces using madness were wreaking havoc on the balance of magic and erasing necessary parts of an ancient prophecy. In danger of losing its magic, the dream attempts to use broken pieces and replacement parts to weave a new tapestry. Choosing the right building blocks isn’t easy.

In this exhilarating prequel tale, meet Luke and Eli, two characters with fascinating pasts and complicated secrets, before they become the king and queen the dream needs them to be. Luke Mendez is a retired military man. Having anxiety, he spies the beautiful girl next door, but then struggles to introduce himself. Eli Miller, the high school history teacher, worked tirelessly for years to break free from a terrible relationship. She moved to Tyler to start over.

Thread is the story of a lonely direwolf shifter and a lone tiger shifter in a time before the two of them meet each other. It sets the stage for A Pack Forms, an enthralling urban fantasy with a paranormal romance tale in the epic Draoithe Saga by Ophelia Kee. If you enjoy the story before the story, Thread is your free introduction to a new series.

Welcome to the dream…

Behind the Scenes

Unlikely Kings Infovert

The dream is vast, and occasionally I have to review parts of it to ensure the current work in progress doesn't conflict with an already published story. Timelines matter. Easter eggs matter. No one but the muse knows why this story must be so convoluted and intertwined, but it is what it is. I hope you enjoyed this post reviewing the origins of the Unlikely Kings prophecy and how Lucifer deletes himself and then returns to fulfill his destiny and finally claim his once lost love.

I've been heavily involved in editing chapters of Dragon Medicine for the Druid Dominion Miniseries, crafting the video extras for The Silver Wraith's Firelight Queen in the LARKS North Collection, and writing the lyrics for Lord of Midnight, a song inspired by Vampire Knight in the Royal Council Miniseries. The dream continues to expand.

The paperbacks have all been updated to meet the new pricing guidelines set by Barnes & Noble. Please consider buying directly from authors as often as you can. You will always get a better offer from OpheliaKee.com than from retailers. Also, all the extras and exclusive items are available there. If you enjoy book merch, your favorite authors have difficulty adding it to retailers, but no issues with making it available from their online stores.

I ran into an issue with the pitch videos I was using Google Notebook to create. I may have discovered a workaround for the glitch, but it will take more time. They are forthcoming and will appear in the miniseries in the Draoithe Saga as soon as I have a bit more time.
