The Truth about the Saga's Origins
For all my readers especially anyone who is new or has only recently stumbled over my craziness, I wanted to admit the truth. I have no formal training in fiction writing. I love to read and decided to write a story. The reasons for that are long so I'll avoid that for now. (If you want to know what prompted me to begin writing, just ask. You'll laugh.) What I wanted to explain was how I write with so much going on in my life.
I’m what’s known in the writing community as a chaotic pantser. I don’t plan out how the story should go. I don't create outlines, bullets, or mindmaps. There is no prewriting. (Lots of research though, but that's another tale.) I write the scenes that flow through my mind rather than plotting the story along a plot arc.
The fancy term for this kind of storytelling is discovery writing. Pantser comes from the idea that one writes by the seat of his or her pants, on the fly so to speak. The chaotic part is that I follow no rules and do no prewriting. Even my character descriptions and crazy calendars were built after I'd written a few scenes.
Laugh. I did when I learned there was even a term for my bizarre storytelling style. I started out writing without any knowledge of how it should work. I imagined that other people did it quite differently. I knew nothing about writing, editing, publishing, or never-ending marketing and promotion. I just wanted to tell a story.
I was going to write one book. Just to see if I could do it. Well, that didn’t work as I thought. I have sixty-nine published titles in the saga including four spinoff miniseries to date and I'm still writing. I've even considered writing in another world. SHHH! Don't let the guys in the dream find out!
Seriously though, if you were scratching your head wondering where to begin or whether you could start anywhere, the truth is that you can enter the dream from many points. I would begin with The Thread. Then check the Suggested Read Order for the Draoithe Saga by the Author at OpheliaKee.com. Scroll to the bottom of the first page and the stories will all be in order along with all the miniseries.
I've created a few boxed sets and combined tales which occur simultaneously in some cases to make volumes in the main saga and offer discounts to those who prefer to binge read. Just be sure you aren't buying a volume for tales you may have already read.
