Firic, also known as Faulkner McAfee, is a 712-year-old grey dragon and the last Druid king of Falkerstone Hall, appearing as a man in his mid-thirties. As a first-order shifter and Dragon Knight, he possesses formidable abilities: he breathes black and purple fire, has second sight, and is invincible, rising again after being killed. Firic can also transform objects into gold and turn others into his dragonsworn servants.
He is fiercely protective of Estelle, viewing her as his “treasure” and destined Valkyrie. His primary motivation is to avenge her past abuse by Leonard Stepanov, ultimately transforming him into her eternal slave. Though he can be manipulative in his offers, Firic ensures Estelle’s safety and care, offering her an immortal life free from fear. He is resolute, drawn to Estelle by a powerful magical connection, and determined to be her mate and protector.
Estelle is a resilient and resourceful 24-year-old woman who, at the story’s outset, is in dire financial straits and fleeing a history of severe physical abuse from her ex, Leonard Stepanov. Stranded on the road to Dallas, she is desperate for a fresh start and a new life away from his pervasive influence.
Her desperate situation leads to an unexpected transformation: she becomes a Corsac fox shifter after being drugged and bitten during an attempted abduction. Presented with a choice by Firic, a powerful dragon king, Estelle agrees to become his Valkyrie, an immortal warrior with heightened senses and potential invincibility. This new life erases her past scars and also grants her the power to confront and exact vengeance directly on her former abuser, turning him into her eternal servant. Estelle evolves from a vulnerable victim into an empowered figure, embracing her newfound strength and purpose.
