Smodering Frost Art

Stalled in Edits - March 7, 2025

Dear Reader,

I promised when I started my author journal I would never lie. So here's the unadulterated truth. I am bogged down in edits on Smoldering Frost. The day job has been too much this past week, and it's been tough. The needle hasn't moved past the first 10 chapters as I write this post. But I haven't been completely idle.

Edits don't offer the same creative energy outlet that creating something provides. While I missed the mark on posting more chapters to the Valkyrie Riders Miniseries, I created the character descriptions and selected the imagery I wanted for them.

Arawn Morgan, Char

By the time this post goes live, I will have posted another character introduction video. Arawn Morgan, the grey Dragon Char, is above. The woman he falls madly in love with is Tessara Valentine, a water elemental sister known as Ice.

He thinks she bewitched him. She isn't sure about him or herself after what happened to her and two of her sisters. Char offers Ice the only hope of salvaging her ruined life. The question is, will she take his offer? Or flee Draoithe to keep the elementals free?

Behind the Scenes

I'm looking into a new direct to reader publishing platform called Curios. It looks interesting. But I'm not sure if it would be a good fit for the dream.

I'm considering using Eleven Labs for higher quality digital audiobooks. I could clone my voice and read all my stories. That costs money I never have, but if more people enjoyed the audiobooks, it might be worth the investment.

I'm also looking into acquiring an agent. Not to publish the stories, but to license the option for either audio dramas or screenplays. I know. It's a long shot. But I'll never know if I don't consider it. And, before a few of you, who have been around for a while, ask about graphic novels, the answer is I would still do that too if it worked out.

Druid Ancestry Book Cover

Shameless Self Promotion

Druid Ancestry is the first volume in the dark urban fantasy miniseries, Lyons Gate.

Set in the dream, this spinoff story from the Draoithe Saga tells the tale of a twisted druid king and his chance encounter with a little demon. Powerful magical forces and an ancient unknown prophecy conspire to grant a lonely man’s desire and an orphan girl’s hope.

It’s not simply a story; it’s an experience. Welcome to the dream…

In Other News

The muse is still quite insane. I started writing in a high fantasy which isn't set in the dream. There's about 6 rough chapters in it. But the scenes stalled, and I'm not sure if the story will go anywhere. I'm also not sure if it wouldn't be better to publish it under a pen name if I completed it.

I have another tale that's partially written, which is also not set in the dream. If either of them ever comes to fruition, be warned. I may reinvent myself and write in high fantasy. My beloved heroic knights, shadowy villains, and damsels in distress are unlikely to leave the stage. I enjoy these tropes far too much.

In the spare time I don't have, the muse is always demanding more stories. The question I always have is, where does the scene belong? The next question is, can't we finish the stories which aren't done yet before we embark on unfamiliar territory? Cackling laughter is all the answer I ever get.

I mean, she has a propensity to get carried away and write enormous sagas with far too many titles. I feel justified in questioning her intent. It falls to me to deal with sorting out the muse's mess every time.

At times, I seriously envy people who plot their stories in advance. I couldn't do it. The characters always drive my stories, and they do what they want. Still, it feels as if there would be more control over all the madness if the author was in the driver's seat. Alas, I am merely the hands typing the tale. The mad muse refuses most measures to rein in the insanity. So there may eventually be other worlds besides the dream.

Review Poster

I need to get to the grocery store. Writers have to eat sometimes and tea is a necessity. Leave your comments and questions. I love to hear from you. Thank you for stepping into the dream once more. I hope you have a lovely weekend and will discover a good story. Please remember when you read, be kind and leave your reviews. Until my next post, welcome to the dream...
